Nothing has officially announced on its social media channels the next generation of its operating system: Nothing OS 4.0. With the motto «"Refined. Redefined. The video shows a series of system function icons: Essential Space, a weather app (with an umbrella), a check (which could be from a notes app), a Polaroid-type photo, sliders control buttons, a contrast symbol (or perhaps a light/dark mode symbol), and others for Bluetooth and the flashlight. All these elements merge at the end of the video, which fits with Carl Pei's philosophy that the future is one app that can do everything. It seems that Nothing OS 4.0 It seeks to unify the system so that all functions fit together perfectly and feel like they are part of the same place.
When will we be able to upgrade to Nothing OS 4.0?
For now, there is no official release date. End of an era for the Nothing Phone (1) with a surprise
Right after the announcement of Nothing OS 4.0, I came across a tweet by Carl Pei that caught my attention. In it, he confirms that Nothing Phone (1) has arrived at end of its life cycle software And it will not receive the new version of the operating system. The company has fulfilled its promise of three years of system updates, and this will be in addition to another year of security updates.
But the big news came later. To acknowledge the users who trusted them from day one, Carl Pei commented that they are «"working on a program for them"». Within minutes, the official Nothing account responded with a mysterious "come back in a few days to see what we're cooking up." This makes me think that, as I understand it, it's very likely a renewal program where Phone (1) users will be able to get a new phone from the brand at a lower price when handing in your old device.
This is a good move by Nothing, as it rewards the loyalty of its community and, at the same time, encourages upgrades to its new devices.
