I&#039;ve always followed the career of <a href=\"https:\/\/nothingtec.com\/en\/tag\/nothing\/\">Nothing<\/a>, But this conversation gave me a much clearer and, I must confess, quite exciting view of the direction they are taking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>S\u00e9lim is not your typical product leader. His background in biophysics and robotics gives him a unique perspective on how technology should interact with the physical world. And that shows in his vision. By controlling both hardware and software, Nothing can design what S\u00e9lim calls a &quot;complete loop.&quot; This allows them to thoroughly optimize key factors like privacy, latency, and battery life, without the limitations of working with third parties. The goal isn&#039;t to keep up with the competition, but <strong>create experiences that, once you use them, seem obvious and natural<\/strong>. This, in my opinion, is what distinguishes true innovators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Beyond models: the importance of systems<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Another point I found very interesting was his opinion on the current state of AI. S\u00e9lim argues that the industry is changing. The focus is no longer on creating the &quot;largest language models,&quot; but on building &quot;better systems.&quot; As models reach their limits, real innovation moves to the <strong>orchestration<\/strong>: the ability of AI to use tools, manage memory, and act efficiently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>S\u00e9lim explains it with a very simple metric: the completion rate. The key is not how intelligent the AI is in a <em>benchmark<\/em>, but <strong>How often does the system convert an intention into a result with the least possible friction?<\/strong>. This practical, user-centered approach is undoubtedly the right path for AI to become truly useful in our daily lives. Although S\u00e9lim was clear that Nothing isn&#039;t trying to replace the phone, he does see a role for related devices. He talks about the phone becoming a <strong>mediator<\/strong>, which coordinates with other sensors and devices, such as headphones, watches, or glasses. Instead of an app-centric experience, we would have a results-centric one, with AI choosing the best path to complete a task.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nothing&#039;s active exploration of AI hardware, and S\u00e9lim&#039;s mention that they&#039;ll be discussing it further early next year, strikes me as a clear statement of intent. It demonstrates that the brand isn&#039;t afraid to innovate and is ready to shape the future of technology.
