It&#039;s the story of seven people who left OnePlus in China to try and prove that hardware can still be exciting. <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/devil_dv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">David San Mart\u00edn<\/a>, co-founder of the brand, reveals in this talk the inner workings of a company that is already worth <strong>$1.3 billion<\/strong>, But it continues to deal with the mundane problems of any manufacturer: from factories in Shenzhen to the price of oil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The leap into the void: from OnePlus to the birth of Nothing<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The beginning was counterintuitive. Instead of launching a phone, they started with headphones. Why? Because of risk and scale. Hardware is a business with tight margins where one mistake can wipe you out. Leaving the comfortable OnePlus structure to set up a European company that manufactures in Asia has a purely economic explanation: <strong>The infrastructure does not exist in Europe<\/strong>. David is adamant: in China, if you need to replace a component, you have ten suppliers on the same street. This has forced the brand to be strategic: they&#039;re not releasing a <em>flagship<\/em> every year because &quot;it&#039;s not worth pushing the user to buy if there&#039;s no real leap.&quot;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The 2026 rollout: Phone (4a), (4a) Pro and native AI<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The new range reflects this maturity. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/nothingtec.com\/en\/category\/nothing-phone-series\/phone-4a\/\" type=\"category\" id=\"305\">Phone (4a)<\/a><\/strong> He opts for plastic for an engineering reason: it&#039;s more impact-resistant than glass. David reflects on China&#039;s efficiency, recalling how in <strong>Shenzhen<\/strong> Taxis were converted to electric vehicles overnight by decree.
