Until this article was published, this space was exclusively dedicated to Nothing products and news. Today I'll make an exception. Because I've come across a product that has fascinated me. With this review, I'm inaugurating the section Nothing (Sorry for the terrible pun), where I'll tell you about other products far from Nothing but that have stolen a little piece of my heart.
This time I'm not here to talk about transparencies, glyphs, or the latest generation processors, but about the Kodak Charmera: a "toy" that has reminded me why I love photography.
More than a camera, a keychain of memories
The first thing you need to understand is that the Kodak Charmera doesn't compete with your smartphone or any other moderately advanced device. With a sensor of barely 1.6 megapixels, The image quality is, objectively speaking, horrendous. But that's where its charm lies. Whereas with my Nothing Phone (3) I seek technical perfection, pinpoint framing, and the absence of noise; with this small Kodak I aim for capture the essence.
It's a tiny device, about the size of a pack of gum and weighing a mere 30 grams. I always carry it in my jacket pocket or hang it like a keychain. That immediacy is unbeatable: you take it out, turn it on, and shoot. There's no post-processing, no HDR, no artificial intelligence enhancing the scene. It's just you and the moment.
The end of the tyranny of posturing
We live in an era where photography has become a slave to "posing" and social media. We strive for perfection, for no one to walk in the background, for flawless lighting. The Kodak Charmera breaks with all of that. Its screen is so tiny that you can barely see what you're photographing, let alone the final result.

That uncertainty of not knowing how the photo turned out Until you transfer it to your computer (since it doesn't have a wireless connection either), it regains a magic we had lost. The results are usually blurry, with nonexistent dynamic range and obvious digital noise, but they look beautiful. They are real, natural photos that capture a smile or a moment in a raw way. It is, ultimately, rediscovering photography as... memory and not as an exhibition.
A toy for nostalgics and collectors
Let's be clear: don't buy it if you're looking for social media content. It's a product for... nostalgics and collectors. For around 40 euros, you buy a box and you might get one of the seven available models. I got the blue one, and although the yellow one is the most iconic, I think this one is beautiful.

It's ideal for those who want to avoid technical complexity and simply enjoy themselves. The focus isn't reliable, especially on distant objects where everything becomes pixelated, and it struggles considerably in low light. But if you're looking for a unique product that replicates the vintage aesthetic that's become so fashionable, the Kodak Charmera is unbeatable.
Enjoy the shot again
It had been a long time since I'd enjoyed taking photos so much. By eliminating the pressure of finding the perfect shot, you're left with the pleasure of capturing the present. The Kodak Charmera isn't a professional camera, nor is it even a good camera by today's standards; it's a toy through and through. But it's a device that makes me enjoy photography again. She's fast, she's imperfect, and above all, she's honest.
