Nothing has officially unveiled the headphones Ear (3a), this device stands out for its rounded design, inspired by bubble wrap and Love Hultén synthesizers. This new model aims to refresh the (a) series' identity, offering a more playful aesthetic without sacrificing the technical features that define the brand.

A leap in sound quality and noise cancellation

The heart of the Ear (3a) is its 12mm dynamic driver, capable of delivering up to 5dB more bass than its predecessor. Nothing has worked on the internal construction to enhance the sound's detail across all frequencies. Furthermore, the wideband active noise cancellation (ANC) system has been significantly improved. Now, the headphones can reduce the noise of human voices by up to 6dB, with a maximum reduction of 45dB.

Adaptive ANC technology automatically adjusts isolation levels according to the environment, although the user can activate transparency mode whenever they need to hear the outside world.

For calls, the brand has integrated three directional microphones into each earpiece, assisted by artificial intelligence algorithms. This configuration isolates the user's voice from distracting noises such as wind or crowds, ensuring clear communication.

Innovation in audio capture

One of the most striking features of the Ear (3a) is the Audio Snapshot. This feature acts like a screenshot for audio: by pinching both earbuds, the user can record up to one minute of audio, including the 30 seconds prior to activation. Additionally, the call recording function allows users to record entire conversations without touching their phone.

All these recordings automatically sync with the Nothing X app, where they can be edited, transcribed, and converted into shareable quote cards. To maintain privacy, the headset emits an audible notification when recording is active during a meeting or call.

Design, autonomy and connectivity

Nothing retains its signature transparency but features a more ergonomic design. The earbuds now include four sizes of ear tips, adding a new XS option. The charging case debuts a 1x3 LED status indicator that visually communicates system alerts, battery level, and pairing processes. Water and dust resistance is certified to the IP54 standard.

In terms of battery life, the earbuds offer up to 6 hours of playback with ANC on (25 hours with the charging case) and up to 10 hours with ANC off (42 hours with the charging case). Thanks to fast charging, 5 minutes in the charging case provides an additional hour of use. Bluetooth 6.0 integration ensures a stable connection in crowded environments, while the Nothing X app allows you to customize the audio using an 8-band equalizer and manage features such as direct access to ChatGPT or multipoint connection.

Availability and price

The Nothing Ear (3a) headphones are available in four colors: white, black, yellow, and a new pink variant. Those interested can purchase them starting today, July 7th, at nothing.tech at a price of 99 euros.
