Just recently, we reported on the strategic shift the brand was preparing: CMF was beginning to forge its own path, independent of Nothing, focusing much of its efforts on the Indian market. Well, Akis Evangelidis wasted no time in confirming that the move is entirely serious and that things are already moving at full speed.
Through a recent post on X, the co-founder announced a key partnership with Optiemus Group. The objective of this agreement is to build the first end-to-end smartphone research and development (R&D) capability in India, covering everything from conceptual design to the final production phase.
Who is Optiemus Group and what does it bring to the equation?
To understand the magnitude of this move, it's helpful to put Optiemus Group into context. It's one of India's most powerful industrial and electronics manufacturing conglomerates. With decades of experience in the telecommunications sector, Optiemus not only boasts a massive assembly infrastructure but has also managed licensing and production for major international companies in the region.
In this new phase, Optiemus will not simply be another industrial partner. The company will participate directly in CMF's upcoming Series A funding round. This financial investment will grant CMF a majority stake in India, a decisive step in consolidating the brand in a market characterized by a huge user base and strong institutional support for domestic manufacturing.

The Nothing formula applied to the Indian ecosystem
The strategy behind this decision seeks to replicate the development model that allowed Nothing to take off from scratch. As Evangelidis himself explains, India has the necessary talent, market scale, and government support, but until now lacked a company capable of creating a complete, proprietary technology development structure for smartphones.
With this agreement, CMF seeks to fill that operational gap. The idea is to leverage its previous experience in hardware and software development to build a comprehensive R&D center from which to design products conceived for the global market.

It remains to be seen how this transition will materialize in the final product catalog and how the identity of CMF will coexist with that of Nothing as this new infrastructure begins to bear fruit.
