The future of personal software is here to stay: Essential Apps enters Beta phase

Nothing has just announced the move to Essential Apps Beta phase, A proposal that seeks to change our relationship with mobile applications. After an Alpha stage of Nothing Playground, The company is expanding access to this tool that allows users to create customized utilities through natural language. The idea is simple: you describe what you need and the AI generates a mini-application that instantly appears on your home screen.

From my point of view, and after having had prior access to test this technology, the potential is tremendous. As I already mentioned in my previous article, We are facing a paradigm shift where software adapts to how you think. It's not about replacing Nothing OS, but to add a layer of more adaptive intelligence that makes technology truly feel like yours.

An evolving language model

In this new Beta version, Nothing has updated its artificial intelligence model. The improvement in the response speed It's remarkable compared to just a month ago; the system is now much more agile. However, this requires an adjustment period: although it's faster, I've noticed that sometimes it takes a little longer to achieve perfect results on the first try compared to the previous model, which, while slower, seemed more refined in the long run.

Let's be realistic: it's not enough to write just one prompt. If you are looking for a very specific design and purpose, the process requires patience and may take between 20 and 50 messages to polish every detail. But what's truly incredible is that, without having coding knowledge, Any user can create functional tools with complete aesthetic integration.

Goodbye to generic widgets

Below you can see the progress and results that can be achieved with a little care and time. I have managed to create two calendar widgets which perfectly match Nothing's aesthetic. It's very much appreciated that the system respects the brand's visual style so much; the result doesn't clash at all with the rest of the interface.

Personally, I love them. I've finally been able to ditch the native Nothing widget, which I found rather basic, and replace it with something else. more elaborate and with a higher information load. It's proof that, with dedication, you can transform your home screen into something much more functional.

Hardware connectivity and roadmap

«"Apps Builder" now allows granular editions, facilitating the updating of specific parts without losing the previous configuration. Although today permissions are limited to location, contacts, and calendar, the real revolution will come to end of February. With the sensor upgrade and the weather API, the connection with the hardware will be much deeper, allowing ideas that were previously limited to be realized.

For now, the deployment is exclusive for the Phone (3), but it will come to more devices with Nothing OS 4.0. This piece, along with Essential Space, Search, and Memory, will form the complete vision of the Essential Suite.

A path of constant learning

It's clear that Nothing is improving the system step by step. Although the creation process still requires some conversational interaction with the AI to achieve specific results, the satisfaction of deploying your own widget is unparalleled. It's a firm step towards an ecosystem where the user has complete control over their tool.
