The dark side of success: mafias, raids and counterfeits of more than 1000 Nothing products

El lado oscuro del éxito: mafias, redadas y más de 1.000 productos de Nothing falsificados

Recently, Nothing India released a revealing video titled «We Found 1000+ Fake Nothing Products… Here's the Truth». In it, the London-based brand addresses a problem that has grown exponentially as its popularity skyrockets, especially in markets like India: the proliferation of counterfeit products of Nothing and CMF. It's not just about aesthetic copies; the brand's team warns of physical security risks and a complete degradation of the user experience.

Police operations and user safety

The situation has escalated to the point of requiring intervention from local authorities. Representatives from Nothing confirmed that they have been working closely with Delhi police to conduct multiple raids. The results are alarming: in one operation alone, more than 1,100 units between counterfeit chargers and headphones.

The most worrying aspect is not only the financial loss for the consumer, but also the danger posed by these items. Since these products do not undergo Nothing's strict safety protocols, the risk of electrical malfunctions is real. Furthermore, the legal team coordinating these actions reported incidents of serious violence during the raids, including mentions of broken bones and physical attacks, which underscores the criminal nature of the networks behind these products.

How to identify a counterfeit Nothing or CMF

There are "shameless" replicas that use colors the brand has never released, making them look almost like toys. However, other copies are good enough to fool an untrained eye. To protect ourselves, Arpit, responsible for smart products in India, offers clear guidelines:

  • Misleading names: Many sellers no longer use the name "Nothing" directly to avoid legal filters, but instead use random names or the tag "CMF compliant".
  • Volume of reviews: Listings for counterfeit products usually have a very limited number of reviews compared to official listings.
  • Physical marks: On the original chargers, Nothing has begun engraving the logo of CMF by Nothing in the upper left corner as a seal of authenticity.
  • Common sense about pricing: If the price seems too good to be true, it's probably because the product is fake.

The clone market

The fact that Nothing is being so widely imitated is a bittersweet sign. On the one hand, it confirms that Carl Pei's industrial design has resonated deeply and is highly desirable. On the other, it's frustrating to see how the effort of engineering and minimalism is reduced to a poorly assembled piece of plastic that can ruin a new user's perception of the brand.

Nothing is taking a proactive stance that few brands of its size dare to communicate with such transparency. My recommendation is clear: Always buy from official channels or authorized distributors. Saving a few euros doesn't outweigh the risk of a charger that could damage your device or, worse, cause an accident at home.
