The wait is over, Nothing has officially announced the release of the Nothing OS 5.0 open beta, its new customization layer. The testing phase begins today, led by the Nothing Phone (3) and will continue its progressive rollout over the coming months.
This update represents a major leap for the ecosystem, introducing key new customization features, new widgets, and the evolution of its artificial intelligence tools within Essential Space. However, the roadmap also confirms bittersweet news for owners of the brand's older devices.
How to access the Nothing OS 5.0 Open Beta
To test the system's new features firsthand before the general launch, Nothing has enabled a simplified access channel:
- Download the app: You need the APK file for the renewed Nothing Beta Hub v2.0 version, available on the official support page.
- Installation path: Once the APK is installed, the option will be available within "Settings > System > Nothing Beta Hub".
- Registration process: By clicking on "Check version" and registering in "Join Beta", the OTA update will take about 5 minutes to roll out.
- Limited time: The access channel for each device will remain open during 7 days since its initial opening.
- Prior precaution: Since this is a beta version, Nothing advises making a full backup, as certain errors or the need for a factory reset could result in data loss.

Roadmap and compatible devices
The brand's official schedule divides the rollout between the Open Beta period and the launch of the final stable version:
- Nothing Phone (3): Open beta from August 26 | Final release in mid-October.
- Nothing Phone (4a) Pro: Open beta in early September | Final release in early November.
- Nothing Phone (4a): Open beta at the end of September | Final release at the beginning of November.
- Nothing Phone (3a) Pro: Open beta at the end of September | Final release at the beginning of November.
- Nothing Phone (3a): Open beta at the end of September | Final release at the beginning of November.
- Nothing Phone (2a): Open beta in mid-October | Final release in mid-November.
- Nothing Phone (2a) Plus: Open beta in mid-October | Final release in mid-November.
- Nothing Phone (3a) Lite: no beta phase | Final launch at the end of December.
- Nothing Phone (4b): Open beta in mid-December | Final release in mid-January.
- CMF Phone 2 Pro: no beta phase | Final launch in mid-January.
Devices that are left out
Unfortunately, some devices will not receive the update, as they have reached the end of support for major operating system updates. The following models will not receive Nothing OS 5.0:
- Nothing Phone (1)
- Nothing Phone (2)
- CMF Phone 1
These terminals have completed their major software update cycle, so they will permanently remain on their current versions.
